Stop Global Warming

Dec 7, 2007 at 8:53 AM by AmyH

Global Warming is a huge problem in the world; however, many people don't believe it is actually happening. Global Warming is when the Greenhouse Gases escape into the atmosphere as CO2 and make the ozone layer thicker. This causes less heat escaping, making it trapped inside the Earth's atmosphere. Global Warming has horrible consequences for Earth, some examples would melting icecaps, raises in the ocean level, hotter weather all year around, and Polar Bears becoming extinct. Global Warming would be so easy to decrease just by driving less, turning off lights, use energy efficient lightbulbs, driving a hybrid. You don't have to cut out driving a regular car completely, just if you are going somewhere close, you should try walking instead of driving. We can all flip a light switch to the off position, why don't can't everyone just do that?

yeah amyy! seriously. our country is so wasteful and selfish. So many people leave lights, tv's, and computers on all day....which is completely pointless considering that half the time no one is even home to use them! People need to cut things like this out. Its not like they are going to miss it...

I agree...we change and bend things that were here before we were to fit our wants and needs, and we're destroying everything in our path...now that were seeing the result known as global warming, people seem to brush it off like it's not real, and nothing can ever happen to them. I wish I were a cat...then i could be lazy all day and wouldn't be so selfish smile.

I agree with you, Amy! If everyone would do something as simple as, turning off a light, drive a hybrid, and change their light bulbs to a more economical and efficient type, a tremendous change would be made. Global warming is a real devastating process that's happening right before our eyes. Global warming will eventually ruin the world's environment. It will even kill species of animals. Doesn't that make you want to take a hand? This cannot be done by one person making changes, everyone needs to take a part.

I agree girls. I just dont understand if a lot of other countries are looking for alternative fuels and ways to stop global warming, why isn't the United States also. We are one of the wealthiest countries and we are spending all of our money on a war most dont think should be going on. If the government doesnt do something about this than i think citizens should step up and take control before it is too late.

You're all right. Many people know that this is going on, but they don't want to do anything about it. They figure that someone else will do it for them. Well, someone has to step up and take a stand for something to happen. If we want a better world, then we need to drop our laziness and join in on doing something good for someone other than ourselves.

It's not even that America isn't looking for alternate ways of energy, it's that people don't believe in global warming. Many people just think it's the government conspiring against the people of the United States so they refuse to spend money on something that could, in the end, change the world.

Many people say that hybrids and other environment friendly cars are so expensive. Sadly, this is true, cars that are better for the environment are so expensive that very few people could afford one; however, instead of buying a hybrid you could car pool, walk, even riding a bike can cut back on the harmful gases cars project into the atmosphere.
There are so many things that people could do but they just choose not to.

I agree with you all. I believe that we need to get the word out about global warming. I think we need someone other than Al Gore to believe in global warming because some people have a huge prejudice against Al Gore.

People need to stop associating global warming with Al Gore. This is an actual issue that future generations (our grandchildren) are going to be greatly affected by, and I'm seriously tired of adults who are so blind that they consider this being part of some sort of democrat agenda without even listening to the data.

You were very correct in saying that buying a hybrid would help the environment. If you can't afford to buy one, there are still alternatives. You could just buy a smaller car rather than the "gas guzzling" SUVs and trucks. By just cutting down on the CO2 emissions you are helping the environment greatly. You could even just cut down on how long of trips you take.

SUV's waste so much fuel and you could do the same thing with a smaller car, the only difference is there is not as much storage room.

Everyone has such great ideas on how we can stop global warming. But most people never put these ideas into action. If everyone has these ideas about how you can stop global warming then why don't you take the initiative to go and do something? I know it is sometimes harder than it seems, but it's not that hard to turn off a light, a tv, a computer, or a car. People once lived without these things why can't we just cut back?

I agree with lauren people need to cut back on their usage of energy. They could just cut back on everyday things, as she said, by turning off TVs, lights, computers, etc. By doing this, we could save a lot more energy and cut back on global warming.

not only does it help cut back on all that, it also puts more money in your parents pockets!
