Factory Farming...

Besides the obvious ethical issues with factory farming, one must consider the major environmental impact this huge industry has. Consider the large amount of methane the livestock release every day because of the foods and water we feed them. This is a problem that will only get worse as we continue raising more and more animals.
Or consider the amount of waste the animals create. How is this disposed of? It is considered okay to put the waste into lagoons, but the waste can actually leak into groundwater, which causes severe problems.

A 2006 U.N. report raising animals for food generates more greenhouse gases than all of the cars, trucks, ships, and planes on the planet put together.

Yep, that means that factory farming plays a major role in global warming (as does the release of methane mentioned in the first paragraph).

I think that people should stop turning a blind eye to this for the sake of a fun trip to McDonald's. It's important that this issue be addressed. Everyone should at least be aware of these facts. They can act on them as they please, but they should definitely know, considering all of the environmental problems it causes.

Charlie, you are completely right. I love the posts you make because you actually know what you are talking about. Raising animals to eat is so pointless, all the food we are feeding them we can be feeding to people who actually need it. I think that America is one of the countries that is going to create it's own end. The countries that have to struggle to survive actually are thankful for whatever they are given; however, American's just take it like it's nothing at all and they don't think twice about it. We need a huge slice of humble pie or else we will never survive the things we are going to encounter in the next few years.

I agree about 50% with you. I think that if we pretty much stop all other production of other greenhouse gases and cut down on this greenhouse gas, then we wouldn't have to cut it completely out of the world.

I see the point that you made, and I agree with you. However, I think that taking away livestock would cause too big of a blow to our economy as well as the world's economy. Livestock is used for things other than food, too.
