Conserving Natural Resources

Natural Resources. Something we all use but rarely think about. Driving to school, heating our homes, and lighting those same homes all use natural resources. And as Americans, we wastefully use, often without thinking, our precious natural resources. These natural resources are non-renewable; we can't just make more of them when we run out. And if we keep using these resources like we are now, the time will quickly come when we won't have any resources left. This will not be a problem just for the U.S., but for the global community. Do we really want the whole world to suffer for our poor and selfish choices?

So, to conserve our natural resources, a solution and action steps need to be formulated. But will one soultion and and certain action steps be affective in all parts of the world? Of course not, because every country has a different budget. Specifically in America, since we are wealthy, we can afford to take big steps to solving this problem. A few steps would be doing away with all these "gas hog" vehicles and replacing them with more efficient hybrid cars. We can also personally limit energy use in our homes by doing simple things like turning off lights, using less hot water, and buying energy efficient light bulbs. These may seem like simple and insignificant steps, but if everyone would do them, we would notice a huge change in energy use, for the better. Now in poorer countries, conserving natural resources is not as big of an issue because they do not need as much energy as more developed countries do. However, these same simple steps could be taken. I think that as a world, not as individual people, we can make a difference. As a country, we need to stop thinking of ourselves and think about the big picture. Our natural resources are vital to our lives and our world, so why are we using them recklessly? The time for change is now, and as a world, we can conserve our natural resources.

I agree with Corban that this could be a real problem. We need to start using less fossil fuels and we need to find an alternative energy resource.

Corban, I completely agree with you. I am glad that you think this is a big issue to. I agree with you as I said before but I think more research should be done and more hybrid cars should be developed. I think a law should be passed outlawing gasoline powered cars in the future. But what if a family can't afford to by a new car. That is just one of the problems. If you have questions or comments send me a message.

Wow, you definately made your point. I think that people are just laying around and not thinking about what they have and what they don't have. They think, "hey we are doing fine now, so what's the rush?" People don't realize that there is a big change we could all just drop. We have something to be happy about, our wealth, our water, our heat, etc. Other countries don't have that stuff, and homeless people? Instead of loosing everything, wouldn't it just be the smart thing to just simply turn the lights off, or buy a hybrid car. I don't think we're realizing that we could use up all our natural resources and not get them back. Personally, I think people are being a bit selfish. We need to act on things like that instead of sitting around and enjoying it while it lasts. It should last a really long time, but instead, if we don't do anything, it could be a couple years or so before we loose it all and not get it back. You made an awesome point.

Amy, you are right. I am ashamed to say that we are a very selfish country, but if we keep ignoring the fact that we are, we will keep causing environmental problems that will affect other countries as well as our own.
